One of the main reasons this occurred was because of the Townshend Revenue Act. The colonists were upset because of the taxation without representation. As a result, they had the Boston Tea Party, which impacted the American Revolution by displaying that the colonists would not tolerate these actions. It further strained the relationship because colonists became a more powerful symbol of American protest and independence.
